Feedback practices in journal peer-review: a systematic literature review

Feedback provided by peer reviewers plays a pivotal role in any journal peer-review model. Peer-review feedback helps authors reconsider their manuscripts new light and improve work before it is published. While there wealth of knowledge empirical evidence focusing on effective practices educational settings, dearth research feedback, especially some academic disciplines including the social sciences education. To better understand ‘good’ ‘bad’ across disciplines, we conducted systematic literature review, informed grounded theory, that aimed to identify features factors exert an impact quality feedback. Findings from 20 publications indicate list good bad pertaining content, language, tone, structure timeliness. We also identified number internal external influence how provide such as academics’ expertise, language skills, motivation seniority, well influences anonymity peer-review, interactions between editors reviewers. Implications for researching practising are discussed.
